Publications

I just had another sidebar for the moment. If you go to http://dabiri.caltech.edu/people/dabiri.html you can take a look at the publications area and read almost all the publications Dabiri has been involved with in pdf format. There are also some photos of his lab and equipment including this interesting bit of equipment. The 8-kPa Constant-head Transient Nozzle Vortex Generator. It's used for studies of vortex ring formation and propagation. Crazy!

I went to the Clarion library database and did a search on articles by john Dabiri in the Academic Search Complete database. There are quite a few interesting articles written and co-written by him. I found the one on, "The 'upstream wake' of swimming and flying animals and its correlation with propulsive efficiency, particularly interesting. He co-wrote it with Jifeng Peng, one of his graduate students. If you want to read one of the many interesting articles he wrote take a look at the Clarion databases.

John Dabiri

I chose John Dabiri because the idea of mimicking jellyfish propulsion to make new things like vehicles or find ways to fix heart valves was fascinating. Officially his expertise is in mechanics and dynamics of biological propulsion and fluid dynamic energy conversion. Say that fast five times. He is currently a professor in the Graduate Aeronautical Laboratories and the Option of Bioengineering at Caltech. He has an MS degree in Aeronautics and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering with a minor in Aeronautics. In 2008 he was selected as an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator for research in bio-inspired propulsion. He has his own webpage at caltech and there is some very interesting material in his research and publications section. I tip my hat to any person who can see heart beats in a jellyfish.
